London, UK – Newcastle-based band RIDA have been crowned the winners of the inaugural Lockdown Sessions competition, winning over judges and the public vote with their entry, “Strangers”.
Cambridge Audio, UK’s leading hi fi company with 50 years experience in making the best amplifiers, speakers, turntables and headphones around, launched Lockdown Sessions this year in search of the greatest unsigned live-streaming act in the UK.
As the winner of Lockdown Sessions, RIDA has won a concert for 100 fans and friends at Melomania Live, London Bridge, which is Cambridge Audio’s live music venue. On the night there will be a free bar courtesy of the award winning Hofmeister brewing company, and the gig will also be filmed and attended by top UK music media and labels.
Initial entries for Lockdown Sessions were judged by music journalist Kate Solomon, Cambridge Audio, and PR agency Starscream Communications, while the top five finalists went through to a public vote on social media, which was ultimately won by RIDA.
Kate Solomon said of RIDA’s winning song: “Lovely vocals and really effective use of layering.”
Quote from winners RIDA:
“We formed the band last summer. The three of us are old schoolmates from Newcastle with a shared passion for music. Having gone our separate ways for university, the plan was to practise as much as possible during the holidays. We got together last Christmas for a few jam sessions, and ended up with four demos, two of which became Strangers and our latest track, Flowers for the Dead.
Winning the Lockdown Sessions competition was a fantastic confidence-boost, and we are very excited about (and daunted by) the prospect of playing a gig in London. Finlay, another friend from school, has joined the band as drummer, and will be with us at the show. The win also encouraged us to launch a website (rida-band.com), which we will be keeping up to date with new releases.
Looking forward, we are continuing to write new material ahead of the gig and are enjoying arranging songs for live performance. We really hope that this is just the beginning, and can’t thank Cambridge Audio enough for the kick-start their competition has given us.”
The winners also received a pair of award winning Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 headphones and a limited edition Gretsch guitar donated by Hofmeister.
RIDA’s first live gig is due to take place in October 2020 at Melomania Live, London Bridge.

Hofmeister Brewing Company makes authentic imported Bavarian lager that’s been named as the world’s best by the IWSC. For those who might remember the name, today the beer is a far cry from its previous incarnation back in the 80s. Following a relaunch in 2017 by two beer enthusiasts, the now independently owned Hofmeister Brewing Company makes genuine Helles lager in the heart of Bavaria at a 4th generation family brewery. Hofmeister Helles is a fresh, crisp lager made according to the ancient 1516 Reinheitsgebot Beer Purity Law and uses only three ingredients – natural mineral water, locally grown barley and Hallertau hops. Recognised internationally for its excellence, Hofmeister was crowned ‘World’s Best Lager’ at the last IWSC Beer Awards. It’s also winner of multiple awards including Double Gold at the European Beer Challenge and Gold at the International Beer Challenge.
